Introduction from Irene Lucas CBE
Thank you for your interest in this key appointment. I hope the information contained on this microsite will encourage you to apply to be our next Chief Executive, and if you do I wish you well in your application.
Here in Sunderland we have an impassioned vision for our City and 2018 is an exciting and busy time for you to join us as Chief Executive, with some really significant events taking place and major milestones.
The Tall Ships event takes place in July, our new landmark Northern Spire bridge, which was given the royal seal of approval by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in February, will officially open and the development of the first phase of the International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP), close to Nissan, is happening at a pace. All of these, and more, emphasise the confidence that the city has about its place in the world.
Within the council we are continuing our successful work on the budget, efficiency and transformation agendas. There is also significant effort going into improving approaches in relation to our statutory duties in areas such as safeguarding and services for vulnerable people, which can only be complemented by the recent appointment of our new Director of Children’s Services/Chief Executive, Together for Children.
At Sunderland City Council, people are at the centre of everything we do, whether they are employees, partners, visitors or residents. If you feel you are an exceptional person who has the leadership, skills, strengths and values we are looking for, we very much look forward to hearing from you.
Irene Lucas CBE
